Hunting is a major draw to
this area. The area is known for its big game hunting of mule deer,
whitetail deer, elk, and pronghorn antelope. We enjoy some great upland
bird and waterfowl hunting of ring-necked pheasant, sharp-tailed grouse,
Hungarian partridge, Canada geese, ducks and more.
Our residents enjoy some of the best fishing anywhere and can do it all
year round. Walleye, catfish, northern pike, perch and other varieties
are being caught in the waters of Nelson Reservoir, Cole Ponds, the Milk
River and the Missouri River.
Nelson Reservoir and others has yielded
many record fish of various varieties. These same waters provide some
good boating and other water sports along with winter activities of ice
fishing, and skating.
Bowdoin National Wildlife Refuge as well as other
state and federal lands provided excellent opportunities to view birds
and wildlife in a natural setting. You will find everything from
pelicans to humming birds, and other 4 legged animals such as coyote,
fox, prairie dogs, badgers, gophers (ground squirrel) bobcat and much
more.
Located just off of Highway 2, Sleeping Buffalo Hot Springs has two
pools, a camp ground, cabins and restaurant.
Once you are used to the vast openness that seems to you to lack trees,
you start seeing the sunrises and the sunsets and the beautiful haunting
landscapes of the prairie.
