Saco is unique in different
ways, but one thing that makes it so unique is that town owns its own
natural gas distribution system, including the wells that supply the
gas. Saco sits in the middle of the Bowdoin natural gas field, one of
the state’s most prolific gas producing areas.
The Bowdoin Gas Field is
located in the rolling prairie lands of north central Montana and extends in length for over forty
eight miles. The Bowdoin Field is the second largest gas
field in Montana with over 1,200 wells and cumulative production to date
exceeding 500 BCF of natural gas. Saco’s natural gas
provided to businesses and citizens are probably the lowest utilities
that you will find anywhere.
