JANUARY-FEBRUARY The ice fishing is excellent on Nelson Reservoir, along with snowmobiling and other winter activities. Fishing licenses expires. New season will start. Girls and Boys Basketball is in full swing. MARCH-APRIL State competition starts for high school organizations Ranches are busy with the calving season. New fishing and hunting season has started. You need to have new licenses. Good early season fishing. Farmers are getting into the fields to start spring seeding in April. Saco School track season starts. MAY Spring seeding will be wrapping up. Ranchers are busy branding and moving cows out to pasture. Excellent time for Wildlife viewing. Fishing is excellent. Better be prepared to get your Elk, Antelope and other special hunt applications in. School activities are wrapping up and kids are out for the summer break. JUNE-JULY Farmers and Ranchers are caring for this years crops and closely monitoring and caring for the land. Ranchers are getting ready for the Haying season. Rodeo and roping activities are in full swing. Fish, fish, fish all summer long. 4-H members are busy working on project for the upcoming fair. AUGUST Phillip County Fair first weekend. Grain harvest is starting. SEPTEMBER SACO FUN DAYS Labor weekend The first football and volleyball games start. Most harvesting will be wrapping up. Winter wheat seeding will begin. Should be all practiced up on your archery skills. The Hunting season is here OCTOBER-NOVEMBER Ranchers are getting fall work done before winter arrives, hay is being stacked for wintering needs. Calves are being cared for, large cattle roundups, calves are sorted, sold and shipped out to the buyers. Farmers will be marketing and trucking their crops to market through out the area. Many area churches are having their fall harvest dinners, where you will find some of the best food around. The hunting is unbelievable; the geese are heading south and are stopping to feed in the area. Football playoffs and volleyball tournaments Basketball practice starts DECEMBER Ice fishing season is starting. Nothing like spearing a large northern pike. The basketball season is here. Winter activities are a big hit with the kids during Christmas break. Adult education classes are starting with lots of choices. |
