Pay N Save Saco Montana

Pay N Save Groceries & Meat MarketWelcome to our home page where we hope you can learn a little bit about us and our family owned business. The Pay N Save name came to Saco in the mid 1950’s when Stuart Thompson bought Palm Grocery from Herman Palm. Stuart continued with the business until 1977 when he retired and sold the business to Buck and Deb Taylor. The Taylor’s operated Pay N Save for the next five years when Saco natives Robert and Betty Plouffe entered into what has now been a 25 year adventure.

Over the years the custom meat processing portion of the business has continued to grow into a commercial business. In 2000, the business had outgrown their store, so the Plouffe’s built an 8000 square foot facility along Saco’s front street to handle the business needs.

Pay N SavePay N Save grocery offers over 4000 square feet of shopping convenience. The store features the Western Family product line along with all your brand name product needs. If you can’t find what you need, simply talk to any employee and they will see what they can do to get you the product. While shopping make sure you stop and look at the Plouffe’s historical photograph collection of Saco. Of course, one of the primary draws to the grocery store is the Pay N Save meat counter where you can get all of your favorite cuts, along with a large selection of products made in house.

Pay N Save is best known for it’s famous smoked meat products. The business has been honored numerous times for items prepared for meat contests. Robert has spent the last 25 years developing the recipes that are used for the products, and ensuring the proper processing of those items.

Pay N SaveRobert’s award winning Hams and Bacons are sought after across the area. If you are shopping for a Ham and one is not available on the meat counter, orders are accepted to make sure the customer gets the size ham they desire. The bacon products are also a popular item among customers. The meat room produces both Old fashioned and Cottage Style bacon cuts. Popular flavors include hickory smoked, peppered, Cajun, English, and cinnamon. Freshly prepared pork sausage is also available in either the ground or link varieties.

Over the years Robert has become well known for his Bratwurst varieties as well. Through trial and error, he has now over 20 different recipes for bratwurst that he stocks the meat counter with. Customers seem to enjoy all the different brands and Saco area residents are never afraid to try a variety that is new. Popular blends include German, garlic, cheddar, pepper jack cheese, steak and potato, Cajun, pizza and taco.

Pay N SaveJust prior to the adventure into Bratwurst, jerky and sausages were the products that Robert worked to perfect. The meat room prepares both chopped and formed, and whole muscle jerky. Perfected varieties include hickory smoked, peppered, Cajun, hot jalapeno, teriyaki and honey jerky. The jerky shelf gets filled often, but is often empty due to its popularity. Alongside the jerky you will find a line of meat snack sticks that are truly delicious as well. Snack stick varieties include the ever popular pepperoni stick, as well as cheddar, pepper jack and pizza.

Custom meat processing is the main role of the meat shop where they process beef, pork, lamb, and buffalo. This is from your corral to your freezer the way you want it. When placing your process order, you can order any of the products produced by the store using your own farm animal. Packaging includes both the wrapped meats as well as the vacuum packed meats for added freezer storage time. When getting an animal processed, don’t be afraid to ask for any of the specialty items from seasoned roasts, prime ribs, maybe a little sweet bologna or summer sausage. You will get a quality meat product the way you want it.
